Six representatives from the St. Louis Park community participated in Search Institute’s Big Tent conference in Houston in November.
Angela Jerabek, i3 grant director, Rob Metz, principal, St. Louis Park High School, Justin Barbeau, the high school’s i3 coordinator, Brad Brubaker, high school social studies teacher, Barb Nelson, 9th grade counselor and Karen Atkinson, Children First coordinator, attended.
Staff from the high school presented information about the Building Assets Reducing Risks, (BARR) ninth grade transition program. The full contingency participated in a session about the federal i3 grant with representatives from three other high schools (one from California, two from Maine) that are also part of the grant program. The i3 grant is enabling those high schools to implement the BARR program and allowing St. Louis Park to extend the philosophy of BARR to the 10-12th grades.
Thanks to the generosity of Search Institute and Park Nicollet Foundation, two participants’ conference expenses were covered. The other St. Louis Park participants’ expenses were covered in the i3 grant.
