Join us for the 17th annual Children First Ice Cream Social on Sunday, May 16, 2-5 p.m. at Wolfe Park next to the St. Louis Park Rec Center, 3700 Monterey Drive. Enjoy FREE ice cream from Sebastian Joe’s and kosher ice cream courtesy of Byerly’s. The day of family fun includes entertainment, a moonwalk, temporary tattoos, craft activities, a kid’s garage sale and exhibits by local organizations.

New this year is a Sparks Fair. A Spark is a special quality, skill or interest that lights us up. When young people know and nurture their Sparks they experience joy and energy. The Sparks Fair is meant to expose young people and adults to a wide variety of activities that could become their Sparks. Sparks Fair participants include David Royce, glass blower, Chef Eli Wollenzien from CRAVE, Selina Rose, hairdresser and the Youth Frontiers staff focusing on leadership.

The amphitheater stage will feature the following entertainment sponored by St. Louis Park Friends of the Arts & the Parks & Recreation Department:

2 p.m. Community Regna with St. Louis Park Community Poet Diane Pecoraro & community youth. A Renga, Japanese word for a poem that is created by a community of people, will be performed in spoken word.
2:10 p.m. John & Chris McKone, Father/Son Acoustic Guitar Duo
2:45 p.m. Brad & Jesse Richardson, Father/Son Electric Guitar Duo

Our Philosophy

The name Children First is a bit deceiving because Children First is really about changing the behavior of adults. We need everyone on the team and using the positive lens of the 40 Developmental Assets to help raise our youth. In St. Louis Park we focus on the assets which outline the relationships, experiences and expectations young people need to thrive.
